This Ultra High Speed version of the IDAS NBZ filters, is especially ideal for RASAs and HyperStars as well as camera lenses. Less expensive than the regular NBZ, they are an excellent choice for ultra high-speed optics users. 

The charts below feature the UHS NBZ filter on the left and the regular NBZ on the right.

  • Taking a look at each parallel light, the UHS is originally more shifted at the longer wavelength side. This is the key and why UHS is more optimized for RASA and HyperStar. Faster optics, more blue shift. So UHS is designed to be perfect when the more blue shift occurs.


Below is the comparison of each transmission rate. 

  • From these data, we can see that the NBZ is more ideal for regular F2 optics or slower while NBZ UHS is more optimized for RASAF2 or faster. The UHS gives the most benefit to HyperStar users.
  • Keep in mind, you lose signal more and more thru UHS at F4 or slower optics. So if you are looking for one piece solution even if you own such a high-speed optic, a regular NBZ is highly recommended. Meanwhile, if you seek the best possible performance with RASAs and HyperStars, UHS is the best choice.

Used with Hyperstar 8" v4 F/1.9

I recently used this filter on a star party so I can capture multiple DSOs. Linked is IC1805 taken in just 2 hours (120 frames x 60x).

I'm very satisfied with the performance of the filter and wouldn't be able to image at F/2 with regular filters because of the shift problem caused by fast optics at F/2.5 or faster.

NBZ UHS - great!

First light for this was on NGC 6960 the Western Veil Nebula. I got great data from just 40 x 60 sec subs. F/1.9 8" SCT w/ v4 Hyperstar
